2008 – Noatak National Park/Preserve II

A cold trip over a snowy pass, but great fishing, a cool peak, and a spooky grizzly encounter.

Despite a fair bit of rain and snow, a wonderful trip, with a terrific peak bag, the best fishing ever, and plenty of challenging hiking. This was also our consistently coldest trip, and we were pulled out of Noluck Lake in 33 degree weather and 30 knot winds. A late night-early morning grizzly encounter, which interrupted happy hour, will haunt us. This bear would not take no for an answer and chased us out of our own camp, even circling around for another go after we had reasserted ourselves. A little spooky.
